‘All over the place’: McCoist now reacts to Andy Robertson’s defensive positioning against Ukraine last night – Rousing The Kop – Liverpool FC News

Ally McCoist wasn’t impressed with what he saw from Andy Robertson for Scotland against Ukraine last night.
Speaking to TalkSPORT, the pundit claimed that the Liverpool man was guilty of trying to play offside for Ukraine’s opening goal.
“Cooper gets caught out of position, Cooper’s a yard too far forward and then Robertson steps out to try and play him offside, and he’s clearly onside because Hanley’s a yard back,” said McCoist.
“From their point of view obviously it’s a great pass and a superb finish. From a Scottish point of view, defensively all over the place.”
Robertson’s Scotland went on to lose 3-1. As a result, the Liverpool defender won’t feature at this winter’s World Cup.
It’s obviously desperately disappointing for Robertson to miss out on leading his country to the World Cup.
Scotland haven’t been to the tournament since 1998. To captain them in Qatar would have been a massive feather in the 28-year-old’s cap.
Not to be in the end for Robbo though. He joins the likes of Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in getting the winter off.
This could be beneficial from a Liverpool point of view. All three of those players have played an incredible amount of football over recent years and an extended break will do them good.
The players won’t see it that way, and nor should they. But hopefully when they’re counting their silverware with Liverpool at the end of the season, they’ll forget their disappointment.
Robertson’s exit leaves Neco Williams as the last Liverpool player gearing up for a place at the World Cup.
Williams’ Wales take on Ukraine in Cardiff on Sunday. They’ll be looking to make it to the tournament for only the second time.
The 21-year-old should be in-line to start for his country after a good second-half of the season on-loan at Fulham.
Whether he’ll be a Liverpool player by the time the tournament comes around is definitely in some doubt. For now though, he is.
If he can put in a good display ahead of the window, then perhaps Jurgen Klopp will be persuaded to keep him around.
