Esports is a multi-billion dollar industry. Esports is growing in popularity, with tournaments drawing large audiences and teams gaining huge sponsorships from large companies.
The most popular esports games are played globally and have amazing betting guides, with fans from different countries participating and watching them online. Some of the most prominent esports competitions include The International (Dota 2) and League of Legends World Championship Series (LoL).
Esports has been considered to have high growth potential due to its mass appeal and global reach. Esports are on the rise, but one question remains; how do they make their money?
A large portion of revenue for esports teams comes from selling tickets or broadcasting rights for their live events. These can range from small in-person tournaments with relatively low production value, for example, the Smash Bros Melee tournaments, to massive stadium-sized competitions.
Another way esports teams make money is by paying players salaries. Teams player’s wages to keep them on their rosters and ensure they stay competitive. This can range from hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for top-tier teams.
Selling player merchandise includes everything from player-branded clothing and hats to team-branded accessories. The most common way for this to work is when a player decides to sell their merchandise in addition to representing the team.
Players can sell their brands of gear on their websites, as well as an esports organization selling branded apparel through its online store.
Sponsorships are the most significant source of income for esports. They’re usually short-term but can also be long-term, depending on various factors. Sometimes they’re monetary, and others are non-monetary.
Local sponsorships can be within one region or province. Regional sponsorships include multiple areas across a continent or country, while national sponsorships are found on a national level in some countries. For example, soccer teams are sponsored by major corporations like Coca-Cola.
These would have local reach and international reach since they’re famous enough to be recognized around the world. Global sponsorships are when you see something like “This video game was made possible by…” at the beginning of your favorite streamer’s videos.
Companies sponsoring a team want worldwide exposure. So, they’ll likely choose someone who has vast followership across all social platforms, such as YouTube Gaming or TwitchTv.
If a company wants to sell its product or brand, it must first license the rights to do so. The process is simple; one party grants permission to another party to use a trademark in exchange for money. Licensing is a great way to make money from your brand, and esports are no exception!
Some famous brands that have licensed their products include Coca-Cola and McDonald’s. Licensing can also be used. An effective marketing strategy for expanding your current audience and reaching new ones. 
You can provide official apparel, accessories, and other gears that fans can buy online or in stores. 
It’s essential for esports because they need all the exposure they can get!
Intellectual property is the legal right to an idea. It can include anything from a song to a game, and it’s used in esports to protect teams from copycats.
For example, if you had a fantastic idea for a new FPS game with all these great features, but someone took it and published it as their work before you did, they could sue you for using their intellectual property.
There are also non-game-related types of intellectual property like merchandise and music rights. They are sold separately from teams’ sponsorships and streaming deals.
These can be lucrative sources of income for esports teams because they’re unlikely to compete with other projects that have nothing directly related.
Esports can also generate revenue from winning tournaments whenever they compete. Although it’s not a consistent source of income for esports teams since they might not succeed in every game, the tournament winnings can sustain the time.
Players are motivated to stay competitive and win more for the team to run its activities smoothly and for the players to make a sustainable career in the esports world.
Esports, previously considered a fringe activity for nerds, has become a multibillion-dollar industry. Many people are still surprised to hear that it’s possible to make money playing video games, but the truth is that this has been an emerging market for many years now. 
Esports’ popularity is growing exponentially, and it will soon be one of the largest entertainment sectors in the world. But how are these players paid? It turns out they have various ways to make their money!

Registrations for National Esports Championship 2022 begin on Wednesday for eFootball 2022, CS:GO & Tekken7; WEC features record $500,000 prize pool
The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) announced the registration for the national qualification tournament—National Esports Championships (NESC 2022), to select the Indian esports contingent for the 14th edition of the International Esports Federation’s (IESF) World Esports Championship to be held at Bali, Indonesia.
The National Championships will be held virtually with top athletes from across the country engaging in a high-voltage competition in the popular games: eFootball 2022, CS:GO and Tekken7.
The DOTA team, comprising of veteran athletes like Moin Ejaz (captain), Krish, Abhishek, Ketan & Darshan, which qualified for the 2022 Asian Games, will be part of Team India for the 14th World Esports Championships.
“We urge all esports athletes to participate in large numbers and become a part of the Indian esports contingent for the 14th edition of the World Esports Championships. The increasing interest for esports in our country currently is encouraging us to push the envelope and give the athletes and the audience something new and exciting each time,” said Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation.
“This year’s World Championships will be the biggest in history with around 1,000 pro teams/athletes expected to participate. We also have multiple prestigious tournaments coming up like Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, etc. This truly is the esports fraternity’s time as the ‘rising-sun’ and ESFI is all geared up to make India an esports powerhouse globally. I am certain that our esports contingent will not only put up a strong fight but also strive for a podium finish,” Suji added.
The Indian contingent, selected based on their performances in the NESC2022, will take part in the World Esports Championships Regional Qualifiers, for which dates will be announced soon by the IESF. The Regional Qualifiers will be organised along with the other continental federations.
The Global Finals of the World Esports Championships will take place in Bali, Indonesia from November 27 to December 9.
Country’s one of the top sports & esports communication agencies, Artsmith-Concepts & Visions, will continue its support to the Esports Federation of India as their official communication partner.
Over 120 countries from all over the globe are expected to participate in the IESF’s flagship event where the prize pool has been increased from $55,000 in 2021 to $500,000 this year.

Opera GX asked gamers about losing control and its impact on others.
– One in four gamers has destroyed their gear out of rage

Losing our temper while gaming is not just the stuff of memes but also a pressing issue that many of us struggle with while playing video games. An Opera GX survey found that more than two-thirds of gamers (65% UK, 69% US) get angry when they lose, while even more (85% UK, 83% US) become irate if lag or a poor internet connection ruins their game. And when Gamer Rage strikes, they usually take out their frustrations on the things they truly love most: their gear.
One in five UK gamers (19%) and one in three US gamers (29%) admit to having destroyed their accessories in the past. To highlight these issues, Opera has released a video showcasing the Anger Controller, an imaginary set of super durable gaming peripherals that can withstand even the most extreme rage.
“Anger Controllers are our tongue-in-cheek way of highlighting the very real issue of rage and anger management amongst gamers, which impacts many individuals including those they play with,” said Maciej Kocemba, Head of Opera GX.
Opera GX has teamed up with Dr Alok Kanojia, also known as Dr K.—a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and leading gaming mental health advocate, to present tips that will help gamers keep their anger in check and manage their frustrations associated with gaming. Dr. K. will be joined by Cr1TiKaL in a discussion about gamers’ mental wellness that will be streamed on June 6 at 7PM PST in GX Corner inside the Opera GX browser. The tips will then be displayed on Opera GX’s website.
The scale of gamers’ frustrations is extensive: Most gamers have either struggled with their own anger issues, or felt the wrath of other stressed out players. For example, almost two thirds of respondents (73% UK, 74% US) have had to reflect on their own angry outbursts in the past, while the negative attitudes of other players has made half of respondents (46% UK, 49% US) feel down at times. Moreover, 18% of UK and 32% of US respondents revealed they had been bullied while gaming, while a quarter of UK gamers (25%) and a third of US gamers (38%) said their own aggressive comments had ruined the atmosphere.
